Nairobi to Quanzhou

Arrive at Quanzhou Jinjiang International Airport (JJN) and transfer to your hotel. Begin your adventure on West Street, the city's most iconic historic thoroughfare. Visit the Kaiyuan Temple to see the 1,300-year-old twin pagodas and the "Ancient Mulberry Tree." Enjoy a local dinner of Ginger Duck or Oyster Omelet.

Explore the city's multicultural past. Visit the Qingjing Mosque, built in 1009 and inspired by the Great Mosque of Damascus. Continue to the Confucian Temple and the Tonghuai Temple of Guan Yu and Yue Fei, where local devotion is on full display. Spend the afternoon at the Quanzhou Maritime Museum to see ancient shipwrecks.

Travel to the Luoyang Bridge, one of the four great ancient bridges of China. In the afternoon, visit Xunpu Village, where women still wear traditional floral headgear (Zhua Hua Wei) and live in unique houses built from oyster shells brought back as ballast by ancient trade ships.

Head to Qingyuan Mountain, a 5A-rated scenic spot. Stand before the colossal Lao Tze Statue, the largest stone Taoist sculpture in China. In the afternoon, visit the Quanzhou Shaolin Temple to witness the incredible martial arts skills of the monks, famous for their "Southern Fist" style.

Visit the Wudianshi Traditional Blocks in Jinjiang, a beautifully preserved neighborhood of red-tiled Minnan houses. Enjoy some final souvenir shopping for local Tieguanyin tea or porcelain. Transfer to the airport for your flight back to Nairobi via Guangzhou or Addis Ababa.
